Wilson stood as a 'Patriotic Trade Unionist's and Seamen's candidate, was adopted by the National Sailors' and Firemen's Union, and claimed to also be adopted by the National Democratic and Labour Party. He supported the coalition government. Dawson was initially endorsed by the NFDDSS, but they later repudiated him.
